America Great
Do you need an adult with you to purchase a Great America Season Pass in person?

I want to go to Great America to buy a Season Pass and spend the day there. Since I don’t have a Season Pass yet, can I purchase it there without an adult?

as long as you have the correct amount of money and you’re able to fill out the info they ask for such as your name, address….. then you can do it all by yourself without an adult.

What Makes America Great? Ed Schultz and Rick Santorum evidently have different ideas.

The Making of African America: The Four Great Migrations

The Making of African America: The Four Great Migrations

$5.99

An award-winning historian’s sweeping new interpretation of the African American experience. In this masterful account, Ira Berlin, one of the nation’s most distinguished historians, offers a revolutionary – and sure to be controversial – new view of African American history. In The Making of African America, Berlin challenges the traditional presentation of a linear, progressive history from slavery to freedom. Instead, he puts forth the idea that four great migrations, between the seventeenth and twenty-first centuries, lie at the heart of black American culture and its development. With an engrossing, accessible narrative, Berlin traces the transit from Africa to America, Virginia to Alabama, Biloxi to Chicago, Lagos to the Bronx, and in the process finds the essence of black American life.

Great Performances, a television series devoted to the performing arts, has been telecast on PBS since 1972. The show is produced by WNET in New York City. It is one of the longest running performing arts anthologies on television, second only to Hallmark Hall of Fame. Great Performances presents concerts, ballet, opera, an occasional documentary such as Toscanini: The Maestro, and plays. The series has also won many television awards, including an Emmy Award, a Peabody Award and an Image Award, with nods from the Directors Guild of America and the Cinema Audio Society. The programs spinoff, Great Performances: Dance In America, which began on PBS in 1976, concentrates solely on dance, featuring such performers as Mikhail Baryshnikov. Although it is not seen as often as previously, there have recently been new Dance in America programs, such as the Emmywinning 2005 production of Tchaikovskys Swan Lake, starring Angel Corella, Gillian Murphy and the American Ballet Theatre. The Great Upheaval: America and the Birth of the Modern World, 1788-1800

The Great Upheaval: America and the Birth of the Modern World, 1788-1800

$6.99

Fresh and brilliant, this is the book that completely redefines the founding era. As the 1790s began, America was struggling to survive at home and abroad, and the world was gripped by an arc of revolutionary fervor stretching from Philadelphia and Paris to St. Petersburg and Cairo – with fatal results. While a fragile United States teetered on the brink of oblivion, Russia towered as a vast imperial power, the Islamic peoples were gearing for war, and France plunged into monumental revolution. In The Great Upheaval, acclaimed historian Jay Winik masterfully illuminates how their fates combined in one extraordinary moment to change the course of civilization and bequeath us the nation – indeed, the world – we’ve inherited.

The Great A&P and the Struggle for Small Business in America

The Great A&P and the Struggle for Small Business in America

$6.99

From modest beginnings as a tea shop in New York, the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company became the largest retailer in the world. It was a juggernaut, the first retailer to sell $1 billion in goods, the owner of nearly sixteen thousand stores and dozens of factories and warehouses. But its explosive growth made it a mortal threat to hundreds of thousands of mom-and-pop grocery stores. Main Street fought back tooth and nail, enlisting the state and federal governments to stop price discounting, tax chain stores, and require manufacturers to sell to mom and pop at the same prices granted to giant retailers. In a remarkable court case, the federal government pressed criminal charges against the Great A&P for selling food too cheaply – and won. The Great A&P and the Struggle for Small Business in America is the story of a stunningly successful company that forever changed how Americans shop and what Americans eat. It is a brilliant business history, the story of how George and John Hartford took over their fatherÂ’s business and reshaped it again and again, turning it into a vertically integrated behemoth that paved the way for every big-box retailer to come. George demanded a rock-solid balance sheet; John was the marketer-entrepreneur who led A&P through seven decades of rapid changes. Together, they built the modern consumer economy by turning the archaic retail industry into a highly efficient system for distributing food at low cost.

America`s Great Railroad Stations (Hardcover)

America`s Great Railroad Stations (Hardcover)

$51.55

An evocative and stunning photographic tribute to America`s railroad stations. For much of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the railroad station or depot was the communal hub of every American town that could boast of train service. There, citizens gathered before they sent loved ones off to college, marriage, or war-and where they greeted them on their return. Most of these buildings were architectural gems, and while many are still in service, certain others now house museums, banks, restaurants, and more. In fact, in cities like Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, renovated stations are destinations unto themselves even for those not boarding the train. And in other places, whole sections of towns have been remade around these structures, restoring their vitality in novel and interesting ways long after the last train has left the station. In America`s Great Railroad Stations, award-winning photographer Roger Straus III, and two lifelong railroad buffs, Ed Breslin and Hugh Van Dusen, join forces to tell the astonishing story of these enduring structures and the important role they still play in the country`s landscape. Journeying from the Pennsylvania Railroad to the Union Pacific to Michigan Central and more, readers will be dazzled by the Beaux Arts monuments of New York and the adobe buildings of the Southwest. Filled with both new and archival photographs and drawings, this volume is a glorious salute to the institution that transformed our nation.

America`s Great Debate (Hardcover)

America`s Great Debate (Hardcover)

$40.74

The spellbinding story behind the longest debate in U.S. Senate history: the Compromise of 1850, which brought together Senate luminaries on the eve of the Civil War in a desperate effort to save the Union. The Mexican War introduced vast new territories into the United States, including California and the present-day Southwest. California appealed to join the Union, but would it and the other territories be admitted as slave or free? The Senate was precariously balanced with fifteen free states and fifteen slave. Southerners asserted that they would not tolerate any imbalance in their disfavor.Henry Clay, one of the greatest figures in Senate history, tried to forge a compromise that would fulfill the dream of manifest destiny. At the same time a related crisis erupted over the boundary of New Mexico and Texas with the latter threatening to go to war. Clay’s efforts to resolve both problems failed. Instead a young senator from Illinois, the self-proclaimed new voice of “the West,” Stephen A. Douglas, devised a tortuous compromise that preserved the Union, at least for another decade. As Senate lions such as Clay, Daniel Webster, and John C. Calhoun exited, Douglas, Jefferson Davis, and William H. Seward replaced them. A new era dawned.Riveting and dramatic, America’s Great Debate brilliantly recreates a critical moment when America fractured but did not break.

How Liberals Have Made America Great (Hardcover)

How Liberals Have Made America Great (Hardcover)

$29.44

In How Liberals Will Save America, political commentator and Fox News radio host Alan Colmes explains how people who fight for liberal ideals help our country move forward. With his trademark humor and wit, Colmes walks readers through the founding of our nation and shows how America was based on a liberal idea. Our very founders were progressives, and it`s progressives who have led America to be the country it is today. Through legislation, constitutional amendments, Supreme Court decisions, and the actions of grassroots Americans, we see that it is liberal efforts that are responsible for programs intrinsic to our American DNA?programs like Social Security, Medicare, assistance for the needy, and the government safety nets that have saved us during the recent economic downturn.Colmes`s goal is to show not only where we are today, but also where we as a nation are going and how it is liberals who will get us there. The divide between conservative and progressive aims has gotten ever more stark, and it seems that many conservatives are trying to take us backward, revoking or rolling back hard-won rights and impeding progress, which at best keeps us stranded in the status quo. This continual push to the right is something liberals must fight, and fight they do. On everything from preserving the separation of church and state, to climate change, regulating immigration, caring for the poor, and making peace, not war, Colmes shows how liberals are leading the way.How Liberals Will Save America will open readers` eyes to some of the battles that will help define our nation as we move forward. Colmes boldly shows

The Great A&p and the Struggle for Small Business in America (Hardcover)

The Great A&p and the Struggle for Small Business in America (Hardcover)

$32.89

In a remarkable court case, the federal government pressed criminalcharges against the Great A&P for selling food too cheaply and won. The Great A&P and the Struggle for Small Business in America is the story of a stunningly successful company that forever changed how Americans shop and what Americans eat. It is a brilliant business history, the story of how George and John Hartford took over their father s business and reshaped it again and again, turning it into a vertically integrated behemoth that paved the way for every big-box retailer to come. George demanded a rock-solid balance sheet; John was the marketer-entrepreneur who led A&P through seven decades of rapid changes. Together, they built the modern consumer economy by turning the archaic retail industry into a highly efficient system for distributing food at low cost.

In this global history, Jay Winik masterfully connects three major events from the last decade of the 18th century, explaining how they reflect their times, and analyzing why they can be said to have heralded the dawn of the modern age: in America, the difficult first steps of the new republic and an early crisis; in France, a revolution; in Russia, the clash between Christianity and Islam. Careful to balance the interests and perspectives of all sides, Winik draws rich portraits of major historical figures while presenting a fascinating narrative of world-changing events.

1812 is splendidly researched and finely written–a fiery tale of our country’s youth, of mighty passions, a half-for-gotten war, and incomparable men and women. David Nevin’s readers are blessed -Ralph Peters, author of Red Army A rich, robust historical novel of the kind we don’t get often enough. Famous men and women spring vividly to life–action abounds– 1812 is a great read – John Jakes The war of 1812 would either make America a global power sweeping all the way to the Pacific–or break it into small pieces bound to mighty England. It was a second revolution of sorts to prove to the British that America had to be taken seriously. The principal actors in this drama were James and Dolley Madison, and Andrew and Rachel Jackson. Their courage and determination would shape America’s destiny. It was a perilous and pivotal time for the young and not-entirely-United States, but it has been the most unremembered time in American history. Until now. The faded old etchings of battle on land and sea, of statesmen, heroes, villains (and their ladyloves), are now, in David Nevin’s 1812, brought to vivid life and color, tumultuous intensity, and you-are there immediacy. -Gary Jennings, New York Times bestselling author of Aztec Whatever we have gained by technology we have lost by ease. 1812

$25.95

In June 1812 the still-infant United States had the audacity to declare war on the British Empire. Fought between creaking sailing ships and armies often led by bumbling generals, the ensuing conflict featured a tit-for-tat You burned our capital, so we’ll burn yours and a legendary battle unknowingly fought after the signing of a peace treaty. During the course of the war, the young American navy proved its mettle as the USS Constitution, Old Ironsides, sent two first-rate British frigates to the bottom, and a twenty-seven-year-old lieutenant named Oliver Hazard Perry hoisted a flag exhorting, Don’t Give Up the Ship, and chased the British from Lake Erie. By 1814, however, the United States was no longer fighting for free trade, sailors’ rights, and as much of Canada as it could grab, but for its very existence as a nation. With Washington in flames, only a valiant defense at Fort McHenry saved Baltimore from a similar fate. Here are the stories of commanding generals such as America’s Henry Granny Dearborn, double-dealing James Wilkinson, and feisty Andrew Jackson, as well as Great Britain’s gallant Sir Isaac Brock, overly cautious Sir George Prevost, and Rear Admiral George Cockburn, the man who put the torch to Washington. Here too are those inadvertently caught up in the war, from heroine farm wife Laura Secord, whom some call Canada’s Paul Revere, to country doctor William Beanes, whose capture set the stage for Francis Scott Key to write The Star-Spangled Banner. 1812: The War That Forged a Nation presents a sweeping narrative that emphasizes the struggle’s importance to America’s coming-of-age as a nation. Though frequently overlooked between the American Revolution and the Civil War, the War of 1812 did indeed span half a continent — from Mackinac Island to New Orleans, and Lake Champlain to Horseshoe Bend — and it paved the way for the conquest of the other half. During the War of 1812, the United States cast aside its c

Everyone knew that the great eclipse of 1831 was coming — and most Americans feared it. The United States was no longer a young, uncomplicated republic but, rather, conflicted and dynamic, inching toward cataclysm. Louis P. Masur organizes his remarkable book around the themes that underlay this tumultuous year: slavery; the unresolved tension between states’ rights and national priorities; the competing passions of religion and politics; and the alarming effects of new machinery on Americans’ relationship to the land. Masur shows how disparate events relating to all these themes affected the very nature of the American character. His is an important and challenging interpretation of antebellum America.

1918: The Last ACT

$12.42

By 1918, after three years of war, Europe was weary of the stalemate and the terrible slaughter on the Western Front. The Russian Front had collapsed but the United States had abandoned her neutral stance and joined the Allies. So the stage was set for what would be the last year of the Great War. Acclaimed military historian Barrie Pitt describes the savage battles that raged uneasingly along the Western front, and analyses the policies of the warring powers and studies the men who led them. From the German onslaught of 21st March 1918–the Kaiser’s Battle designed to force a resolution before America’s armies could tip the balance–through the struggles in Champagne and the Second Battle of the Marne to the turning point in August and final victory, the author gathers together scattered material to make an enthralling book.
